"Verano al Cien!" or "Summer at 100!" is the name of SRA Ministries' first Adult English as a Second Language Summer Program.  As a teacher, you will be helping Latino adults in learning to communicate in English, allowing them to be more productive at work, school, and everywhere else!

The classes will be held in two different locations and times, and you can select the location that you want to participate and volunteer. AMERICORPS will provide you with a stipend or allowance and an educational voucher that you may use to pay for books at school and for college tuition, as a token of gratitude for you helping out our community.

You do not need teaching experience and do not need to speak in Spanish. All you need is your ability to be friendly and conversational with people.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

• Be able to teach:

  • One or two online classes from your place or from our office; or

  • One or two in-person classes in our Summer School locations; or

  • one online and one in-person (we can plan accordingly what best fits you!)

• Maintain communication with students through cellphone calls, or texting through WhatsApp, Zoom conference, etc.

• Provide with a daily "office hour" to tutor and support students.

 

June 6th through July 8th

Summer Site 1: 4144 North Central Expressway, Dallas (Fitzhugh and 75)

Online: 3:00 - 4:30 PM

In Person: 7:00 - 8:30 PM

 

Summer Site 2: Frazier House Community Center

4600 Spring Avenue, Dallas (Dolphin and Haskell)

Online: 10:00 - 11:30 AM

In Person 1:00 - 3:00 PM

Requirements:

• Age 17 or older

• US citizen or permanent resident

• Americorps requires that the hired candidate serve 100 hours distributed in 5 weeks. Monday through Thursday or to Friday (classes will run Monday through Thursday. We may use Friday to tour the city for an hour and practice English with students as we visit a park, a coffee shop, etc.).

• Must be available Jun 6th through July 8th

• Must have a valid driver's license with car insurance and reliable transportation to travel from your home to the educational site, SRA Ministries offices, and other locations as needed.

 

Benefits:

• $900.00 Total Living Allowance broken into bi-weekly checks.

• $357 Education Award, distributed after successful completion of the program and can be used for existing student loans or future education expenses like tuition and books.

Additional Qualifications:

• Fluency in the English language; preferred if you are bilingual (English and Spanish)

• Have knowledge and experience using Google and Microsoft applications
